After studying Medicine at Lady Hardinge Medical College, Delhi, in 1987, Dr Sunita Kapur chose to specialise in Paediatrics. A life-altering experience with acupuncture transformed the course of her professional life and she decided to study acupuncture, which she pursued at Hongkong, Beijing and Nanjing (China) and learnt from teachers of TCM in USA, Canada, Korea and Australia. She commenced her practice in 1988 and joined Sir Ganga Ram Hospital as a consultant in 2002.
Intense engagements with acupuncture therapies pushed her to introduce acupuncture to hitherto unexplored fields, especially women’s health – from conception to birth and after. She trained with world renowned experts – Jane Lyttleton, Debra Betts and Randine Lewis, in the fields of infertility and gynaecology. She has made many breakthroughs through her clinical interventions, especially with patients who have had repeated failure with assisted reproduction.
She is proficient in the management of various chronic diseases using laser and ultrasonics and also specialises in the treatment of children with colour therapy.
Driven by a deep passion for academics, Dr Sunita set up IANM in 1992, with the desire to share the history, philosophy and techniques of acupuncture with a greater number of doctors and practitioners. As Medical Director, she regularly conducts courses on Basic and Advanced Acupuncture.
IANM is affiliated to the Indira Gandhi National Open University, which launched the first Post Graduate Diploma Course in Acupuncture (PGDACP) for qualified medical graduates in 2008. Dr Sunita remains actively engaged in pedagogy, is regularly interviewed and published and has co-authored three books. She is a member of the American Academy of Medical Acupuncture and a Fellow of the Acupuncture Federation of Korea and China.
